This first exhibition at Hubbub Café marked an early articulation of Shek’s engagement with urban subjectivity and psychological interiority. Situated within the dense rhythms of city life, the works emerge from an environment defined by constant motion, noise, and social proximity. Against this backdrop, the possibility of disappearance, of momentary withdrawal into anonymity, becomes a central undercurrent.

The silkscreen prints form a sequence of visual “chapters,” through which the artist constructs an alternative internal landscape. Rather than offering fixed narratives, the works invite viewers into a slowed, speculative space, encouraging aimless drifting and associative looking. These imagined environments function as brief suspensions from the pressures of social life, opening a space for contemplation, imagination, and quiet observation.

Developed over the course of a year, the exhibition represents Shek’s first complete body of silkscreen prints. While rooted in personal experience, the work gestures toward shared urban conditions, foreshadowing an ongoing inquiry into isolation, perception, and the fragile boundaries between individual interior worlds and the collective spaces of the city.
