Paradise Works | Salford

Dance With Me is a new immersive exhibition to be held during the winter of 2026 at Paradise Works in Salford by British Chinese artist Donald Shek exploring intergenerational social spaces within the British ESEA community.  Through digital animation, sound installation, and sculptural intervention, the exhibition examines how dance functioned as a site of connection without the barrier of language, expression, and resistance - from first-generation migrants in dance halls to second-generation youth immersed in UK club culture. The project offers a fresh, intimate/human perspective on diasporic identity, framed through themes of nostalgia, belonging, and cultural time-loops. Developed with two commissioned composers and featuring new technical developments in Shek’s practice, Dance With Me is a timely, emotionally resonant work that reframes British Chinese experience outside of conventional narratives.
